Our Lady of Peace Church» in Clarence anschliessen.

Further steps taken on our way into the future

After the Roman Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life has confirmed the merger of the American region of the Brothers of Mercy of Montabaur with the congregation of the Brothers of Mercy of Mary Help of Christians through a decree on May 18th 2016, the congregation’s first chapter is taking place in Clarence from August 29th through the 31st under the leadership of the superior general Brother Peter.

Aside from the Ame rican brothers, Brother Alfons Maria and Brother Benedikt are participating as members of the general council; Dr. Albert-Peter Rethmann, CEO of the BBT group, is participating as advisor. The chapter is being facilitated by Sister Patricia Burkard and Sister Jean Thompson of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Newman Communities in Williamsville.

The aim of the chapter is to shape the merger of the communities, the election of the superior of Clarence, and to clarify the position of the brothers in respect to their institutions’ elderly care on the Brothers of Mercy Campus in Clarence.

The chapter is being overshadowed by the serious illness of the previous superior Brother Jude Holzfoerster, who has played an essential role in promoting the merger.

The chapter will be followed by a liturgical celebration of the merger in the Our Lady of Peace Church in Clarence on September 1st 2016. The Bishop of Buffalo, Richard J. Malone, will lead the ceremony. During the ceremony the American brothers will receive the Way of Life, the habit, and the ring of vows of the Brothers of Mercy of Mary Help of Christians from the superior general Brother Peter as symbols of their membership. All brothers present will renew their vows together before the bishop.

The liturgical celebration will be followed by a ceremonial act and a dinner in Clarence, to which the brothers invite all their employees, friends and supporters.
